THE PILOT PROJECT

Following the national release of the Activate Your Neighbourhood (AYN) Tactical Guide in the summer of 2022 by CPRA, the government of NS — Department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage — provided a grant to CPRA to support Let’s Get Moving Nova Scotia, An action plan for increasing physical activity in Nova Scotia.

The Purpose

To determine the effectiveness of the Tactical Guide in increasing physical activity and social connectedness in neighbourhoods that supported the Let’s Get Moving Nova Scotia action plan.

The Goals

  • Goal 1:  Assess the relevance, usability, and efficacy of the different activities within each of the seven tactics in the Tactical Guide.
  • Goal 2:  Assess the effectiveness of knowledge dissemination and promotion strategies to increase awareness and utilization of the Tactical Guide among users (neighbours).
  • Goal 3:  Identify what supports users (neighbours) need to implement the activities from the Tactical Guide.
  • Goal 4:  Understand the needs, challenges, and preferences of community leaders to enhance their effectiveness in assisting users (Neighbours).

The Communities

Seven communities from across the province participated in the pilot project.

Evaluation

In partnership with the University of Waterloo (Dr. Troy Glover’s work set the stage for the AYN Tactical Guide and was a key partner with CPRA to produce the Guide), the pilot project was evaluated. For information about the evaluation, please see the evaluation section of this page.
