MUNICIPALITY OF CHESTER: PROMOTING ACTIVATE YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD TO THE COMMUNITY

Municipalities are important partners in delivering programs and services in communities. In the case of Activate Your Neighbourhood, our goal is to reach community members directly so that they can feel inspired to initiate change in their neighbourhoods since they know their neighbourhoods best!

Most of the activities in the Activate Your Neighbourhood Tactical Guide are low- to no-cost and easy to implement so community members can choose activities to do for their sole enjoyment and activity or for the benefit of their neighbours. Some activities, particularly those that engage the whole neighbourhood, require more resources (time and money) and may be done with the support of their municipal partners.

Getting the information out is the first step in activating neighbourhoods! The Municipality of Chester featured the Activate Your Neighbourhood Tactical Guide in their Recreation and Active Living Strategic Outlook (2024-2027) and their Winter (2024) program guide. The winter program guide (and other guides) is a great way to promote the Tactical Guide and including it in the Strategic Outlook ensures an ongoing commitment to the principles of placemaking as a way to increase physical activity and social connectedness in the long-term!
